Grape Stomp popular Harvest Event
Murphys: Boutique Wine Tasting at its Best
(MURPHYS, CA) – On Saturday, October 7, 2006 the local wine
community, businesses, and residents get into the spirit of harvest
and winemaking during the 13th Annual Calaveras Grape Stomp.
Held in conjunction with the Goldrush Street Faire, this is a
highly popular and fun-filled day of activities, shopping, wine-tasting,
and some serious grape stomping.
More than a ton of California wine grapes will be brought in
for teams of two, to smash to juice in heats of approximately
two minutes each held every half hour. Teams also compete in
an optional Costume Contest. Costumed contenders need not stomp
in their festive garb, but must check-in in costume.
At the same time, Main Street in Murphys will be blocked off
to make room for more than 100 booths offering arts, crafts,
and interesting handmade jewelry. The day’s events include entertainment,
silent auction, barbecue, and wine tasting from all Calaveras
wineries.
